|aDocumentary film that tells the story of fifteen Karen villagers from Burma who brought suit in a U.S. court against the U.S. oil company UNOCAL for human rights abuses related to the construction of the Yadana gas pipeline in Burma, which was a joint project of UNOCAL and the French oil firm TOTAL. The villagers reported that the Burmese Army, which was providing security services for the oil companies, committed abuses including forced labor, rape, murder, forced relocations and the destruction of villages. The film, shot in Burma, Thailand, France and the U.S. features interviews with attorneys for both sides, spokesmen for industry groups, and human rights activists, including Ka Hsaw Wa, who serves as a guide for the filmmaker and as spokesperson for the plaintiffs.
