|aFuture now showcases products and developments that have the potential to influence our lives in a sustainable manner – not in the distant future but right now. The project is promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and uses features, profiles and interactive web documentaries – a new non-linear video format in which the user can determine what to view next. The text, pictures, audio and video content are available in German, English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and Indonesian. In addition, individual features are aired on television and radio. People around the world interested in science and research are informed about the project via Facebook and Twitter. Users can participate too, for instance in a quiz to test their knowledge of the use of genetic technology in agriculture and genetically modified food. Animated graphics help to make sense of complex specialised information.
