|aMartha Horgan has always been "different." Slow, awkward and hopelessly out of sync, she is incapable of telling a lie, and in a world where lies are the norm. A fragile, childlike spirit in a grown woman's body, Martha lives in the guest house of a ranch owned by her Aunt Frances, a young widow caught in a dead-end affair with a married politician. When the man's drunken wife wrecks her front porch, Frances hires handyman/drifter Mackey to repair the damage. Before long, Martha is overcome by her physical and emotional desire for Mackey; he in turn, is strangely drawn to her simplicity and brutal honesty. Each is forever changed by the other, and their pssion sets off a shocking chain of events that will turn their worlds upside down.
