|uThe study aimed to explore the experiences of indigenous women who suffered domestic violence and received shelter services in the tribes, with the emphasis on the factors affecting the women to use the service. For the purposes, the interview data were collected from 11 victimized women and then analyzed. The research findings could be grouped under a number of topic headings: 1) The information of shelter service was not circulating: it was found that victimized women in the tribes knew little about the shelter service which made them vulnerable and suffer domestic violence for long time. 2) The understanding of shelter service was incorrect: the victimized women heard the rumors and believed that receiving shelter service means divorce. Accordingly, most of the women were not willing to receive the service because they didn’t want to divorce and just hoped to temporarily leave the violence environment. 3) The location of the shelter was far away from the tribe: the distance and location of the shelter affected the women’s will to use the service. 4) The effect of patriarchy culture: it was found that indigenous women in the tribe were still influenced by patriarchy culture. They hence tended to forbear and keep silence when suffered domestic violence because of the opinions and persuasion from the leaders, representatives, and elders in the tribe. Based on these research findings, some suggestions were made: 1) the shelter should be locally developed and built in the tribe; 2) enhancing the qualification training and humanized service for shelter workers; and 3) promoting the domestic violence preventing work in the tribe
