The text gathers recent scholarly research papers concerning the intersection between tourism and animals. It is divided into three parts, each tackling a different aspect of animal tourism. The parts are entitled, Ethics and Animal Welfare, Conflict, Contradiction and Contestation, and Shifting Relationships. Of note are research papers discussing captive whales, especially Orcas, helicopter hunting, and the impact of ecotourism on developing countries. The text will be an interesting read for tourism academics, as well as people interested in looking at animals through the lens of humanity’s pursuit of meaningful leisure, whether for ill or good.
